Inspired by the art of Julia Weist

I’ve just gobbled up Rhizome’s interview with artist Julia Weist, and enjoyed her observation that:

It’s been said that there’s a hierarchy from data to information to knowledge and wisdom. Increasingly we’re interfacing with the bottom tiers of that hierarchy through tools that have only limited, if any, embedded ethics. Exploiting, visualizing, and departing from that sphere are the ways I know for how to test those limits.

With so many online cultural collections stuck at the bottom of that hierarchy, it’s a good thought to dream about how to move to knowledge and then wisdom. Feels like we’re still so far away from that. Considering the embedded ethics or lack thereof in the hierarchy is a curious angle.
